Any time existing conditions are involved in a project, designers start compiling existing project documents and performing field measurements. Often hundreds of hours are spent just trying to understand what is currently there to build from or to coordinate with, and still items are missed and costly changes are incurred. 3D laser scanning allows AEC professionals to accurately capture existing conditions quickly. This process produces a point cloud the designer/coordinator can measure, coordinate, and model from. In this session we explore the high definition survey technology, often referred to a 3D laser scanning, including the processes to capture, process, coordinate, and model from the scan.
