2012 Convention Recap

The agenda of the 2012 Convention Committee, chaired by Heather McKinney, FAIA, was to shake things up and produce "an unconventional convention.” From the responses of attendees, they definitely succeeded!

AIA Austin asked Texas Architects, "Who do you influence?"

2012 Convention Recap

Robert Bennett, Convention and Membership Chief

With the help of the 2012 Convention Futures Committee and the 2012 Continuing Education Committee, the 73rd Annual Convention and Design Expo featured 50% more tours, 30% more Continuing Education Classes, and an abundance of new programs for Emerging Professionals!

Not only did Emerging Professionals get their own track of classes (provided by AIA Austin), but the Convention featured its first Career Fair on Saturday, Oct. 20, as well as a group of Fireside Chats, where Emerging Professionals had an opportunity to speak with established Texas Architects who shared advice, wisdom, and stories from their careers. And the Emerging Professionals responded! In 2011, 118 Associates and 26 Students attended the Convention. This year, 176 Associates and 146 Students – were in attendance! But the Emerging Professionals weren’t the only ones that responded: we had gains in Architect member attendance and Non-Member attendance as well!

Texas Society of Architects is grateful for the members and volunteers who helped to schedule, staff, and produce all of the programs that made this Convention such a success.

As our eyes turn to Fort Worth in 2013, we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and make sure there are even more exciting surprises in store for the 74th Annual Convention and Design Expo, Nov. 7-9, at the Fort Worth Convention Center. We hope to see you there!
