For its first Design Conference, set to take place Feb. 17-18, 2012 in Midland, the Design Committee will explore the theme of “Architecture in the Hinterlands” with a focus on how significant design work is created and nurtured in regions far removed from major urban centers.

Attendance is limited. To register, download the PDF below and send the completed form with method of payment to the Texas Architects’ office. The cost is $515 per person (includes meals and all other conference events). Hotel accommodations are not included, however, the form provides contact information for the Hilton Midland Plaza where a block of rooms is reserved for $115 per night, single or double occupancy, plus 13% tax. Continuing education credits (not HSW) are available.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be Brian MacKay-Lyons. A principal of MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects in Halifax, Nova Scotia, MacKay-Lyons is an architect respected for crafting graceful buildings in out-of-the-way places.

Also presenting will be architectural historian Edward Bosley, the executive director of the Gamble House in Pasadena, Calif. Bosley will speak on the unexpected emergence of architecture in unlikely places.

Another highlight of the weekend will be tours of early residential design by Frank Welch, FAIA. His work will also be the subject of a panel discussion.

Note that we've received AIA approval for CE credit (not Health, Safety, Welfare). The * indicates session pending approval, although approval is expected.
