From Concept to Completion
University of Houston Associate Professor of Architecture William Truitt and former students Marsha Bowden and Brijal Parikh have conceived SEEPZ Mumbai, a research and design proposal to partially repurpose a declining manufacturing zone in India for residential and commercial uses.
"The motivation behind SEEPZ Mumbai springs from my academic and professional work. I was building a house for a client in Mumbai a couple of miles away from the factory he owned at SEEPZ. Having seen how these tax-free zones partition urban life, I began assigning large-scale urban projects to my students at UH and had them consider such problems of capital development in rapidly growing cities such as Mumbai," says Truitt.
