Key Indicators Reflect Growth in Construction Industry
In her latest Weekly Economic Outlook, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs reported that several key economic indicators, including single- and multi-family housing permits, are on the rise.
Among several promising statistics for architects, the Comptroller reported that:
- A total of 6,495 building permits for single-family homes were issued in February 2013. In the 12 months ending in February 2013, a total of 77,590 permits were issued, 20 percent more than in the previous year.
- There were 4,912 multi-family building permits issued in February 2013. During the 12 months ending in February 2013, a total of 54,897 permits were issued, 54 percent more than in the previous year.
In December, the value of contracts for non-residential construction in Texas was up 5.1% over the previous year. New figures are not yet available.
