AIA Announces 2014 Fellows — 21 Texas Architects Named
The American Institute of Architects has announced the newest members of the AIA College of Fellows. Among the 139 members elevated to Fellowship in 2014, 21 are from the state of Texas. Congratulations to all the recipients of this prestigious honor. Only about 3,000 of AIA's total 80,000 members hold this distinction.

Daylighting was a primary design driver in two recent Austin projects: the plans for the upcoming Central Library by the joint venture of Lake|Flato Architects and Shepley Bulfinch, and the McGarrah Jessee office renovation by McKinney York Architects. TxA 2013 Design Awards Announced
The Society is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2013 Design Awards. This year's jurors included Julie Eizenberg of Koning Eizenberg in Santa Monica, Calif., Douglas Stockman of el dorado in Kansas City, Mo., and Ann Beha of Ann Beha Architects in Boston. Eleven designs were selected from among 207 entries. These projects will be featured in the September/October issue of Texas Architect magazine.

The renovated Arizona State University Health Services Building creates a sense of health and wellness within an efficient, functional design that reinforces the campus fabric. The Lake|Flato project received an AIA San Antonio Merit Award and was recently featured in Architectural Record.
AIA San Antonio Design Awards
Recipients of the 2012 AIA San Antonio Design Awards were announced in November 2012. Selecting from 45 entries representing 24 San Antonio firms, the jury recognized three projects with Honor Awards.
Design Awards Panel Discussions during October Convention
In October, the architects of the 13 projects selected for 2012 Design Awards will participate in three separate panel discussions during the Texas Architects 73rd Convention and Design Expo. Attend one or all sessions as the architects discuss and explore what went into the winning designs.
13 Receive 2012 Design Awards
Thirteen projects were selected for 2012 Texas Society of Architects Design Awards from a total of 227 entries. Winning projects will be featured in the Sept/Oct issue of Texas Architect magazine. Jurors were Angie Brooks, AIA, LEED AP, of Brooks + Scarpa, Los Angeles; Eddie Jones, AIA, of Jones Studio, Phoenix, Ariz.; and James Timberlake, FAIA, of KieranTimberlake, Philadelphia.
Texas Firms among AIA COTE Award Winners
On April 19, the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on the Environment (AIA–COTE) announced its Top Ten projects for 2012. This year’s batch of winners highlight community ties, social equity, and attentiveness to water issues. One Texas firm and three national/international firms with offices in Texas are among the winners.
Buildings and Landscapes and Xylophones
In 2010 Lake|Flato completed work on the renovation of the Visual Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Since its opening, the new facility has been getting a lot of use from its clever inhabitants who are continually exploring their building's capacity for exhibiting and generating art, both in ways it was designed for and also in ways that the design team never could have predicted.
