In April, AIA Austin announced the recipients of its 2013 Design Awards. The competition recognizes outstanding architectural projects by members and promotes public interest in architectural excellence. This year's jury included Craig Kolstad, Assoc. Texas Architect Elizabeth Chu Richter, FAIA, to Lead AIA in 2015
At the recent AIA National Convention, held on June 20-22 in Denver, Texas Architect Elizabeth Chu Richter, FAIA, was elected 2014 First Vice President and 2015 President of AIA. Richter, currently a member of the AIA National Board of Directors, is CEO of Richter Architects in Corpus Christi and a past president of the Society.

TxA 2013 Design Awards Announced
The Society is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2013 Design Awards. This year's jurors included Julie Eizenberg of Koning Eizenberg in Santa Monica, Calif., Douglas Stockman of el dorado in Kansas City, Mo., and Ann Beha of Ann Beha Architects in Boston. Eleven designs were selected from among 207 entries. These projects will be featured in the September/October issue of Texas Architect magazine.
AIA West Texas Design Awards
The AIA West Texas Design Awards program recognizes member projects that reflect excellence in design, regardless of size, budget or type. Four projects were singled out for Honor Awards in 2012.
Society Unveils New Academic Member Designation
This past January, the Board of the Texas Society of Architects created a new membership category, "Academic Member." This designation was created at the behest of Texas Architects President Larry Speck, FAIA, in order to strengthen the bond between architectural educators and practitioners. Fort Worth Design Awards
Recipients of the 2012 AIA Fort Worth Design Awards were announced in January. Six firm projects and five student works were singled out for excellence in design as part of the chapter’s Honors and Awards Program.

Recipients of the 2012 AIA San Antonio Design Awards were announced in November 2012. Selecting from 45 entries representing 24 San Antonio firms, the jury recognized three projects with Honor Awards.

John Staub Awards 2012
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) recognized projects across the state for their achievements and contributions to preserving and advancing the classical tradition in architecture, urbanism, and the allied arts. The 2012 John Staub Awards for Residential Architecture were presented for the following five projects.
The 2012 Exhibit of School Architecture sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administration (TASA) and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Convention awarded the Caudill Award to Lady Bird Johnson Middle School in Irving designed by Corgan Associates.
Ray Bailey, FAIA (1942-2012)
Ray Bailey, FAIA, CEO of Bailey Architects in Houston, passed away on December 10, 2012. Past president of the Texas Society of Architects and a recipient of the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Bailey is being remembered by the architecture community both for his personal qualities, which were strongly admired by many who had the privilege of working with him, and for his enduring contributions to the field.
