This presentation addresses issues inherent in meeting the accessibility requirements of the 2012 Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) when renovating, altering, or modifying qualified historic and existing buildings and facilities. The scope of the discussion includes the application of TAS 202.5 (Alterations to Qualified Historic Buildings and Facilities); identification of primary function areas and the application of TAS 202.4 (Alterations Affecting Primary Function Areas); Variance Application and review process of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; available resources for identifying qualified historic buildings and facilities; and brief discussion of differences between the 1994 and 2012 TAS applicable to historic buildings and facilities.
