"Design architecture is the goal and building codes are just a necessary evil that we have to deal with." Sound familiar? Architect candidates often hear this, yet from a life safety perspective, good code comprehension saves more lives than good design. Having a good understanding of code or earning a "code geek" moniker can be a key to job security and set you apart from the crowd.
The Architectural Registration Exam (ARE) does not have a specific test for building codes, choosing instead to test for comprehension throughout all modules. But as you prepare for your exams, how do you know what building code knowledge is important? This class will help you look at building codes in a different light and develop a strategy for ARE preparation. Building code is just another component of a project's "big picture," and is no more restrictive than budget or square footage limitations. It doesn't have to be a puzzle.
