Description

Many cities, large and small, have a stockpile of unused or underutilized older buildings waiting for the right set of circumstances to once again become productive components of the built environment. New uses for older buildings often involve a change in occupancy and alterations of the existing structure to accommodate new stairs, elevators, or mechanical equipment. Adapting the structure of a building can be a daunting task, but advances in new technologies have provided more options when making structural alterations. Find out how structural modifications helped to transform four buildings into successful stories of adaptive reuse.
