Good design can still originate from one person's idea or vision, but great design is the result of integrating the knowledge and experience of many disciplines. The whole becomes much greater than the sum of the parts when the architect becomes a leader who embraces integrating the talent from all aspects of a project. It's not a compromise, but a grand optimization - and here's a tip: Engineers love to optimize things. Integrated design is applicable and scalable from residential design to large manufacturing facilities. This presentation discusses optimization at both large and small scales, with case studies including a 1.3 million sf fabrication plant, and a private home.
