Architects might feel that building a model takes too much time or costs too much money, especially if the client isn't paying for it, but it doesn't need to be that way. We need to think of our models not as finished works of art but as quick prototypes that take only enough time and expense to give feedback on the design in a way that helps us make important decisions in the design process. Using digital and traditional techniques, this presentation will look at four techniques for quick prototyping: cardboard or clay models, storyboards, life-size scenarios, and video. In order to be effective, these prototypes need to be quick and dirty, not finished works of art.
