Stone has long been a basic building material for our profession. Indeed, the most enduring works of architecture, the monuments on which our aesthetic sensibilities are based, are built of stone. This presentation will discuss the historic role stone has played in our profession, its place in practice today, and how technology is making the use of stone by architects easier to specify, fabricate, and install. Particular emphasis will be placed on the sustainable aspects of stone used in architecture, and the advantages of its use for long-term care and maintenance.
