Description

Tour Guide: Mike Brennan, Fort Worth South

This tour will focus on redevelopment progress in Fort Worth’s Near Southside, a downtown-adjacent district that is rapidly re-emerging as a vibrant, mixed-use urban neighborhood. Located between downtown Fort Worth and the Historic Fairmount neighborhood, the Near Southside blends a wide range of development issues: preservation, infrastructure challenges, street design as a catalyst for change, architectural form vs. style, and neighborhood compatibility. The Near Southside offers a variety of urban living options and all of the conveniences that a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood can offer.

Led by Mike Brennan, the planning director of Fort Worth South, Inc., this bus tour will make several stops at key projects within the district. Fort Worth South, Inc. is a nonprofit redevelopment organization that works closely with the City of Fort Worth and major stakeholders in the area to spearhead the district’s revitalization. Attendees will examine a variety of case study projects that together illustrate the Near Southside’s unique development environment, telling the story of the adoption and impact of the City’s first form-based development code, in effect since 2008.
