An intimate weaving of pavilions and narrow stone walks on a sloping wooded site; this house is a deft marriage of Asian influence with Spanish courtyard typologies as found in south Texas. Completed in 1994, this residence for Mollie and Garland Lasater, Jr. remains the only house in Fort Worth to receive an AIA Honor award for design at the national level (1997) as well as state and local. The Lasaters were Lake/Flato’s first client (for an earlier ranch house in Falfurrias) when Ted and David elected to leave O’Neil Ford’s practice in San Antonio.

The material palette of cut limestone veneer on wood framing, standing seam copper roofs and white oak detailing with natural plaster walls speaks to the reclusive quality of the site, working in delicate harmony with the landscaping by Rosa Finley of King Creek Landscaping (Rose Residence, Stretto House and many Lake|Flato projects over the years).

The central courtyard with its crepe myrtles and Japanese ‘chain drains’ is a place of great repose alongside one of the smallest master bedrooms in recent history.

Close out your convention experience with a Sunday morning at this beautiful residence. A leisurely stroll through this house and grounds before leaving Fort Worth will complete your transformative experience.
