Tour Guide: Paul Dennehy, AIA, Dennehy Architects; Don Mills, Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership, Texas Christian University
Professor Don Mills and Paul Dennehy, AIA will guide tour attendees on an exploration of the rich, architecturally significant buildings that make up the Texas Christian University campus. Buildings on the campus include the work of Paul Rudolph, Walter Netsch of SOM, Roche-Dinkeloo, the Hugh Hardy Partnership, and Ellerbe Beckett.
Founded in 1869, Texas Christian University has become a Tier 1 university located on 272 acres in the heart of Fort Worth. The original master plan of the Fort Worth campus was designed by Fort Worth Architects Waller & Field in 1911 and was sited on 50 acres of donated land in southwest Fort Worth. Over the next 100 years, the campus expanded well beyond that original vision, but the core of that plan remains intact today.
This walking tour will cover the history of the campus from its earliest origins and historic buildings to some of its newest LEED-rated facilities and the athletic complex. It will explore the campus-wide initiatives to create not only a sustainable campus but also a sustainable culture of campus life.
