Tour Guides: Ames Fender, AIA, Fender Architects; Norman Ward, AIA, Norman D. Ward Architect
Attendees will tour two projects by Fort Worth architects that reinvent contemporary residences from the past. These houses reveal the potential in working with the designs of those who came before and using their work as a starting point to create new and transformative solutions.
2100 Indian Creek Drive: Fender Architects has created this addition to a mid-century modern house in Westover Hills. The original 6,500 square foot house was designed in 1957 by Fort Worth residential architect Jack Schutts, AIA with Preston M. Geren & Associates as the Architect of Record. The existing house embraced the steeply sloping site, providing privacy from the street, and the house opens up to the secluded, lushly planted grounds behind it. The pool and cabana were removed entirely and a 5,000 square foot addition was designed as a series of connected pavilions, respecting both the original house and landscape.
4401 Overton Crest Street: Norman D. Ward Architect designed this interior remodel of a residence originally designed by Booziotis & Company Architects in 1978. The renovation does not add any new space to the existing house, yet it works with the architecture of the existing home, molding it into a new configuration of spaces that integrates seamlessly with the exterior. The interior’s clean contemporary forms wrap into the original exterior creating a reinvigorated and cohesive design.
