The successful candidate will be a key member of the design staff for the Texas Main Street Program concentrating on the revitalization of historic downtowns across the state. In addition to working with the 87 Texas Main Street communities, this position will be part of the agency’s new Courthouse Square Initiative currently under development. The Texas Main Street Program assists select communities with a holistic approach to downtown revitalization while the Courthouse Square Initiative will focus on leveraging the impacts of restored county courthouses to further nearby economic and community development. Provide design, preservation and architectural services with an emphasis on historic commercial buildings to local officials, property owners, developers and other design professionals. Assist communities as part of a team that includes other designers, planners, and community development specialists. Work involves performing assistance in office and field settings and taking a leadership position in encouraging high quality preservation work, in conformance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards in Main Street districts. Prepares public design presentations and trains others. Self-starting; works under moderate supervision and direction of the Texas Main Street Program state coordinator and Main Street architect.
