The Texas Society of Architects maintains an active government relations program to promote the interests of its membership. Through the Texas Architects Committee (TAC), an unincorporated political action organization allowed under Section 527 of the IRS Code, the Society raises funds for contributions to candidates willing to stand for public office. The profession’s only state PAC supports those who demonstrate leadership, responsiveness, good judgment and a willingness to work with architects advocating for safe, beautiful, sustainable environments. It’s the only legal way we, as a professional organization, can participate in the electoral (political) process that is critical to ensuring the best possible legislative body and state officials.
Every year, each of our 17 chapters has a contribution goal, which are combined to set the state TAC contribution goal. Our statewide goal for 2014 is $155,000. There is also a participation goal for the number of contributors. This year, our goal is 17% of the Texas Architects membership, or 1,250.
Personal contributions are encouraged. Contributors who donate $100 or more qualify as members for the Century Club. Silver, Gold and Platinum Century club members receive standing recognition on our TAC Contributors page. Century Club levels are:
- $100-249: Century Club Member
- $250-499: Silver Century Club Member
- $500-999: Gold Century Club Member
- $1,000 or more: Platinum Century Club Member
