AIA Lubbock is thrilled to announce the 2026 AIA Lubbock People and Place Design Awards! Review the criteria below, then create your account, and submit your project and/or nomination!

Award Criteria

People Awards

RISING STAR AWARD

The Rising Star Award is given to an AIA Lubbock member who has shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in the early stages of his or her architectural career. 

Eligibility

AIA Member or Associate AIA Member who has been practicing or licensed fewer than 10 years at the time of submission. 

Criteria

• Demonstrates strong leadership skills
• Service to AIA Lubbock
• Evidence of exceptional contributions to the profession and/or community

TRAILBLAZER AWARD

The Trailblazer Award recognizes an AIA Lubbock member who, at mid-career, has made significant contributions to the procession of Architecture. This individual’s endeavor, whether specific or broad in nature, will have identified them as a Trailblazer – willing to take risks and focused on exceeding all expectations to make an impact.

Eligibility

AIA Lubbock Member licensed 10 or more years.

Criteria

• Demonstrates strong leadership skills in a specific or broad area of the profession. 
• Service to AIA Lubbock
• Exceptional contributions to the AIA Lubbock Chapter and/or the architectural community. 

LEGACY AWARD

The Legacy Award recognizes an AIA Lubbock member for a lifetime of distinguished leadership and dedication to architecture, the profession, and the community. The award, our chapter’s highest honor, recognizes members who, by their example and service, have made significant contributions to the advancement and advocacy of the profession and the community. 

Eligibility

Professional members of AIA Lubbock are eligible for this award; however, as this award recognizes lifetime achievement, nominees should be in the latter phase of their career. 

Criteria

Evidence of nominee’s contributions of great depth and breadth, having an individual and collective effect and influence on the profession of architecture.

• Aspects of the nominee’s work or life experience that may have reflected contributions or sensitivity concerning areas of special interest to AIA Lubbock, its members, and the architecture profession. 
• Significant contributions to the practice of architecture.
• Significant contributions to the architectural profession. 
• Significant contributions to the community.

COMMUNITY PARTNER AWARD

The Community Partner Award recognizes an individual or organization who/which is not specifically involved in the practice of Architecture for their extended commitment to community service and/or significant contributions to the community as evidenced from a positive impact on urban, environmental, or neighborhood issues. 

Eligibility

Members of the greater Lubbock area and its surrounding community who are not practicing architects. 

Criteria

Work that has made a difference through leadership, or the singular effort of an individual that has positively impacted the community. 

• Demonstration of an extended commitment to community service.
• Evidence of a significant, positive impact on urban, environmental, or neighborhood issues.

Place Awards

Additional rules for Place Award submissions are listed in the ‘rules’ section below.

• CONCEPTUAL / UNBUILT
• STUDENT / RECENT GRADUATE (1 year after graduation)
  • All built, theoretical, or competition projects can be submitted by current or recent graduates from Texas Tech University. Projects must have been completed after January 1, 2021 while attending Texas Tech University. 

Submission Fees

Entry fees are non-refundable and go toward furnishing award hardware and venue accommodations for the winners and award reception.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

People Awards

We have simplified nominations for People Awards for 2026. Review the criteria in the Description section and above, select ‘people award’ from the submission page, and enter your nominee’s contact information. After you submit your nomination, your nominee will receive an email that informs them that they have been nominated, and asks them to submit the required documentation. 

Place Awards

All forms, uploads, and payment occur online. A complete submission means the following have been completed. A detailed description of each submission is provided below.

1. Upload the Jury powerpoint 
2. Upload the ceremony powerpoint
3. Upload the easel display PDF
4. Complete the online project data form
5. Pay the submission fee

DETAILED SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General Requirements

• Submitted projects must have been completed on or after January 1, 2021.
  • Built projects must have completed construction after Jan. 1, 2021
  • Unbuilt projects should have been presented or completed on or after Jan. 1, 2021, and should not have been presented or submitted to any competition / conference prior to Jan. 1, 2021.
• Entries shall be submitted by the design architect of record, member of AIA Lubbock, and Licensed with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners at the time of when the project was completed.
• Projects must be submitted in the same name of the firm that executed the commission. If that firm has been dissolved, or if its name has been changed, an individual or successor firm may enter projects under the name of the firm in effect at the time the project was executed.
• Project completed as collaboration with other firms shall require an entry form to be completed and signed by all parties in order to validate proper acknowledgment. However, the project’s primary architect of record must be performed by an AIA Lubbock Member.
• Multiple Entries of the same project will not be accepted. Applicants submitting as a successor, whether an individual or firm shall coordinate will all parties prior to submission.
• Individuals or firms whose primary offices are in Texas may enter any number of projects located anywhere in the world.
• AIA Lubbock’s Design Awards Committee is authorized to disqualify any and all information submitted that does not conform to the eligibility requirements.

TEMPLATE DESCRIPTIONS

Jury Template

The Jury Template must remain un-branded. It is intentionally simple so that each project is judged similarly with minimal formatting. The jury presentation must include:

• Title Slide
  • Project Name
  • Project Site
  • Location
  • Date of Completion
• Site Plan
  • Graphic Scale and North Arrow
• Building Floor Plans
  • Graphic Scale and North Arrow
  • Gross Square Footage and Net Assignable
• Additional Images
  • Include additional images (do not exceed the template limit. do not add slides.) adequately describing the site context, the building interior and exterior, as applicable. 

Ceremony Template

The ceremony template will be used at public presentations. This template is also intentionally simple so that each presentation is uniform. This presentation has a title slide, and the 4 additional slides for your best project images, plans, etc.

Easel Presentation PDF

The easel presentation PDF will be used to display physical prints of projects at public presentations. This template is provided as an Adobe InDesign file only. Instructions are included and we ask that submitters do not change the format and layout so that each board has a uniform appearance in a gallery setting.

AIA Lubbock Chapter Hosts 52nd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

october 6, 2026

On a picture-perfect October day in West Texas, the AIA Lubbock Chapter hosted its 52nd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Texas Tech University’s Rawls Golf Course.

This year’s tournament featured two full flights, doubling the number of sponsors and players from the previous year. Teinert Construction returned as the tournament’s Title Sponsor for the second consecutive year, supporting the chapter’s mission to promote education in the field of architecture.

Participants enjoyed one of West Texas’ most beautiful courses while taking part in additional games throughout the day, including Longest Drive, Pay to Play Forward, a Putting Challenge, and Closest to the Pin.

Members of the Texas Tech Huckabee College of Architecture’s AIAS generously assisted the chapter, helping provide local architects, engineers, interior designers, and allied construction professionals with an engaging and rewarding experience.

Proceeds totaling over $28,000 from the tournament benefited scholarship funds at the Texas Tech University Huckabee College of Architecture, helping support the next generation of design professionals.

AIA Lubbock sends out a special thank you to all sponsors and players for helping our chapter provide grants and scholarships to Red Raider architecture students!
