Recognizing unbuilt projects demonstrating innovation and excellence in design.
The Texas Society of Architects Studio Awards recognize real or theoretical projects that demonstrate excellence in design. Real or theoretical projects that go beyond the boundaries of architecture to address current critical issues are encouraged. Submissions from students and practitioners are judged on equal footing, and projects of all types are considered together. The jury looks for entries that: embody strong ideas critical to contemporary practice; resolve these ideas thoroughly; and present them clearly.
Our 2020 Studio Award Jurors met on July 17. The jury consisted of Wonne Ickx, PRODUCTORA; Tatiana Bilbao, Tatiana Bilbao Estudio; Jose Castillo, Arq 911; Verónica González Zavala, VGZ Arquitectura; and Mariana de la Fuente, UNAM. After an afternoon of deliberations, they selected six projects from over 60 entries. The winning projects were announced on July 22 and will be featured in the November/December issue of Texas Architect magazine

Urban design entries may involve landscape architecture, planning programs, civic improvements, environmental considerations, and redevelopment fixes. An urban design project submitted for Studio Awards can be in the planning or design stages, in the process of construction, or partially built. However, the full plan cannot be completed and/or implemented to be considered. If an urban design project is partially built, the submission should not include photos of the built portions; rather, the submission should focus on drawings, diagrams, and renderings only.
All entries must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
The 2020 Studio Awards jurors will be announced on our website, www.texasarchitects.org, and the jury will convene in late summer to select the winners.
Once final selections have been made, Studio Award recipients will be notified by phone, and winners will be announced on the TxA website and social media.
