March 21, 2017

The 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, which will open on September 16, will include two Houston-based participants, both out of Rice University

Jesus Vassallo is an assistant professor at Rice and the author of “Seamless: Digital College and Dirty Realism in Contemporary Architecture” and a work in progress called “Epics in Everyday.” At his own small practice in Houston, Vassallo studies the relationship between architectural form and urban space through housing.

MG&Co., founded by Noemi Mollet and Reto Geiser, is a collaborative design pratice based in Houston. Geiser is the Gus Wortham Assistant Professor at Rice. MG&Co. explores the boundaries between design and research and the productive intersection between architecture, installation, and typography. Geiser curated Switzerland’s official contribution to the 11th Venice Biennale, “Explorations: Teaching, Design, Research.”

The work of Vassallo and MG&Co., as well as the work of 102 other firms, will be on display at multiple venues around the city until January 7, 2018.
