Studio Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 2016 TxA Studio Award winners! Aaron Seward traveled to New York City and met the studio awards jury at the offices of Diller Scoifidio + Renfro (DS+R). The distinguished panel of jurors consisted of three DS+Rers: firm principal Charles Renfro, AIA; associate Brian Tabolt, who is also an assistant professor at Cooper Union, visiting critic at Syracuse NYC, and a 2009-10 Peter Reyner Banham Fellow; and Sean Gallagher, who is director of sustainable design at DS+R and on the faculty at Columbia University GSAPP. 2014 Studio Awards — Winners Announced

The Texas Society of Architects Studio Awards recognizes innovation and excellence in design. The program emphasizes real or theoretical projects that go beyond the boundaries of architecture by addressing current critical issues. This year's submission offered up stunning design while tackling substantial ecological, social, and cultural challenges. The 2014 Studio Awards jury met on Friday, September 12, at The Diana Center at Barnard College in New York to review this year's award submissions. TxA 2013 Studio Awards Announced

The Texas Society of Architects Studio Awards recognize innovation and excellence in design. Real or theoretical projects that go beyond the boundaries of architecture by addressing current critical issues are encouraged.  Our 2013 Studio Awards jury consisted of New York City-based Paul Lewis of LTL Architects, Amale Andraos of WORK Architecture Company, Lyn Rice of Rice+Lipka Architects, and Gordon Kipping of G TECTS. Four designs were selected from among 59 entries. These projects will be featured in the November/December issue of Texas Architect magazine. AIA LRGV 2011 Studio Awards

Carolina Civarolo, AIA, of Boultinghouse Simpson Architects in McAllen, received the Spark Award for Digital Media for the proposed renovation and expansion of the University of Texas–Pan American’s College of Business Administration in Edinburg. Ortiz Architecture & Environment in Weslaco was recognized with a Design Award for an Unbuilt Project for its Weslaco Family Care Center & Occupational Medicine Clinic. The jury was composed of architects whose buildings were previously recognized with 2011 Design Awards from the chapter. “The motivation behind SEEPZ Mumbai springs from my academic and professional work. I was building a house for a client in Mumbai a couple of miles away from the factory he owned at SEEPZ. Having seen how these tax-free zones partition urban life, I began assigning large-scale urban projects to my students at UH and had them consider such problems of capital development in rapidly growing cities such as Mumbai,” says Truitt.
