The three jurors for this year’s TxA Design Awards are Ashley Rao, AIA, LEED AP CPHC; James Timberlake, FAIA; and Everald Colas, AIA, NOMA.

Chris is Principal Architect and co-founder of modus studio, a progressive design collective based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Since founding the practice in 2008, he has led a range of influential, sustainable, and award-winning projects across the built environment. Working alongside the firm’s companion fabrication lab, modus shop, he guides a practice that integrates architecture, prototyping, graphics, and fabrication. Inspired by the landscape of the Ozarks, his work emphasizes craft, observation, and the relationship between the natural and built world, translating everyday experiences into thoughtful and sustainable architectural design.

Everald is the founding principal of STORYN Studio for Architecture and is known for work that connects architecture, memory, and civic life. A Haitian American architect and educator, Colas leads projects that translate cultural narratives into contemporary architectural form. He previously served as a Senior Architect at Bjarke Ingels Group in New York and gained national recognition as Principal Project Architect for the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art in St. Petersburg. His current work includes major cultural institutions such as the Woodson African American Museum of Florida and the African American Museum and Research Library.

Ashley is a principal at Leers Weinzapfel Associates, a Boston-based architecture and urbanism practice widely recognized for its exceptional design for the public realm in complex urban and campus contexts. The firm’s work spans civic, educational, cultural, and infrastructure projects and is known for its integrative design approach centered on the human experience and context. Rao’s recent work includes Adohi Hall at the University of Arkansas, the first large-scale mass timber student residence hall and recipient of the 2021 AIA National Housing Award, the Davis Center at Williams College, and the School of Public Health & Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has taught and lectured at institutions including the Yale School of Architecture, MIT, and Williams College.

James Timberlake, FAIA is a founding partner of KieranTimberlake, an internationally recognized architecture practice based in Philadelphia. His work reflects a commitment to beautifully crafted buildings that are holistically integrated with site, program, and people. Timberlake is the recipient of numerous honors including the Benjamin Latrobe Prize, the Louis I. Kahn Award, and an American Academy in Rome Prize. With partner Stephen Kieran, he has co-authored several influential books on architecture. Notable projects include Atwater Commons at Middlebury College, the U.S. Embassy in London, and Cellophane House™ exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art.
